The candidature has organised a public event in calle Alcazabilla, Málaga, to follow the BIE's decision live
The Spanish candidature is going to offer a broadcast feed for media who want to make it available upon request. Moreover, the local television channel, Canal Málaga, will show a special live programme from 9am, which can also be followed from the candidature and City Council’s social media accounts.
On 21 June, Paris is to host the 172nd BIE Assembly during which the 2027–2028 World Expo host city will be announced. The city of Málaga will attend to defend, for the third and last time, its candidature centred on the theme “The Urban Era: towards the Sustainable City”, before the Bureau International des Expositions (BIE) delegates, minutes before the final votes are cast to select the host city.
According to information provided by the BIE, the 172nd assembly will be held at the Palais des Congrès de Paris, and Málaga will present its candidature at around 9.35 am. Málaga will be the first candidate city to present its project for the third and final time before the BIE delegates and will be followed by Bariloche (Argentina), Minnesota (USA), Phuket (Thailand) and Belgrade (Serbia), respectively.
The Spanish delegation that will travel to Paris is made up of representatives from the four institutions that support the candidature: Málaga City Council, the Spanish government, the Andalucían Regional Government and Málaga County Council.
After the five candidate cities have presented and defended their projects, the BIE delegates will cast their votes and the winning city will be announced at around 2.15pm during a press conference organised by the BIE.
Then, at around 3.15pm, the Spanish Embassy in Paris will host a reception for Spain’s delegation visiting the city.
Málaga’s candidature presentation has been organised and staged in collaboration with Unicaja Banco, McArthurGlen and Fundación Sando.
PUBLIC EVENT IN MÁLAGA
In addition to the presentation in Paris, the candidature has organised a public event in calle Alcazabilla, which will start at 9am on 21 June. There will be a live stream of the Assembly projected onto a large screen, live entertainment and promotional material for those attending.
So this is, in a sense, a call to anyone who would like to attend this public event and watch the Assembly in this part of the city on the morning of 21 June.
HOW TO FOLLOW LIVE?
BIE-accredited press (the deadline was 16 June) can follow the assembly live via the link provided by the organisation. They have explained that the vote casting will not be streamed and the host city will be announced via the Twitter account @bieparis with the hashtag #BIE172.
However, the Spanish candidature is going to offer a broadcast feed for media who want to make it available. Para acceder a la misma es preciso dirigir un correo electrónico a comunicacion@malaga.eu with your press outlet name requesting the link, which will be sent to the email address provided.
Furthermore, the public can follow the Assembly live on the local television channel, Canal Málaga, which will broadcast a special programme from 9.00am, which will also be streamed on its website(http://www.canalmalaga.es/) and the candidature’s Málaga 2027 (malaga_2027) and the Málaga City Council (@malaga) social networks.
THE URBAN ERA: TOWARDS THE SUSTAINABLE CITY
Málaga is a candidate to host the 2027 World Expo with the proposal “The Urban Era: towards the Sustainable City”, a theme that affects all countries regardless of how developed they are. This candidature calls for reflection on one of the main challenges facing contemporary society in the medium and long term: making population growth and urban development compatible with environmental protection and the adoption of innovative solutions that guarantee improvements in the quality of life of city dwellers.
