Málaga City Council provides information about the city’s candidature to host Expo 2027 “The Urban Era: towards the Sustainable City” at its stand during the 11th edition of Transfiere – the European Meeting on Science, Technology and Innovation – held today and tomorrow at Málaga’s conference centre.

The City Council’s stand, spanning 132 m2, displays several information panels about the Expo and a 2 m2 video wall showing a promotional video of the candidature, which debuted at Expo 2020 Dubai and is available on YouTube.

In addition to a simulation of the pavilions, the stand provides details about the Expo on one of the 15 totem signs promoting innovation-related projects based in Málaga, which are also exhibiting at Transfiere.

The totem reminds us that more than three quarters of the world’s population will live in cities by 2050 and there’s a need for us to reflect and share knowledge so that population growth and urban development can be compatible with protecting the environment.

It also explains that if Málaga were selected by the Bureau International des Expositions (BIE), Expo 2027 would be held on a plot of land in Buenavista (Campanillas) on the city’s productive triangle (UMA, Málaga TechPark and Fycma). The land would consist of 250,000 m2 for pavilions and 800,000 m2 also including the adjoining land for logistics and housing.

Particular reference is made to the post-Expo project: after the expo, the land to the west of the main plot could accommodate the Freight Transport Centre’s expansion and the area to the east could become public housing.

It also explains that more than 160 entities and companies support the project, including Barceló, Caterpillar, Deloitte, Dekra, El Corte Inglés, Endesa, Ferrovial, Fundación ONCE, Meliá, Mercadona, Orange, TDK, Telefónica, Sando, Unicaja and Vodafone.

Similarly, it provides the project’s timeline, which started in 2019 with Málaga City Council’s announcement to promote this project, which eventually received approval from the Spanish government. A QR code with the project’s website is also included.
